LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Karl Skala addresses unmet needs

COLUMBIA — I support Karl Skala for Third Ward councilman. Karl has long been concerned about Third Ward neglect. While Third Ward taxpayer money helps support development in other areas, the Third Ward continues to have unmet needs such as the traffic issues on Clark and Ballenger lanes.

When Karl was on the council a few years ago, he pushed for and got roundabouts on Mexico Gravel Road and Ballenger Lane to make them safer. If elected, he will continue to work on road improvements, especially to Clark and Ballenger lanes.

Unlike his opponent, Karl is not supported by development interests. If elected, he will push for developers to pay their fair share for needs created by the developments, such as roads and sewers, rather than placing an unfair burden on taxpayers.

Karl is concerned about everyone in his ward. He founded the Hominy Branch Neighborhood Alliance, regularly attends neighborhood and City Council meetings and holds coffee hours to share his extensive knowledge of city government with Third Ward citizens and others.

As a former Marine and father of a policewoman, Karl is concerned about protecting citizens. While on the council, he voted for hiring additional police and for the Police Review Board.
