COLUMBIA — A rock slide has closed a northbound lane of U.S. 63 near the border of Boone and Callaway counties.

According to a press release from the Missouri Department of Transportation, officials learned of the rockslide Thursday night and moved to close the lane as a precaution to ensure motorists' safety.

The department intends to bid a contract to fix the problem Monday morning, the release said.

The lane closure is expected to remain in place for about 10 days, and U.S. 63 will be closed periodically while crews work on stabilizing the rock face and removing loose debris. The work could start as early as Tuesday and be finished in early May.

The release said drivers should expect minor delays in the work zone.
