Missouri tennis won its second SEC match of the season Sunday with a 4-3 win against No. 23 Tennessee.

The match was played at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis because Missouri's outdoor courts in Columbia are being upgraded because of heavy snow this winter.

The Tigers picked up singles victories at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 from senior Maria Christensen, sophomore Elisha Gabb and freshman Madison Rhyner.

"We needed to pick up wins at the bottom of our lineup," Missouri head coach Sasha Schmid said. "Good teams are deep, and it was great to win at No. 5 and No. 6."

Christensen contributed a No. 2 doubles victory with junior Rachel Stuhlmann. Gabb and Rhyner paired up for a win at No. 3 doubles.

"They (Gabb and Rhyner) had a great day and a hard fought doubles match where they stood up in the pressure," Schmid said. "They showed a lot of will and a lot fight and were able to close it out."

Tennessee is one of seven SEC teams ranked in the top 23 of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association women's team rankings. Missouri has played three of the top five teams in the country this season, including No. 5 Georgia this past Friday.

"All the play at a high level is making us better and we are improving," Schmid said.

Missouri (9-8, 2-7) takes the court next on Friday against No. 8 Alabama in St. Louis.
