Joel Lloyd Haley, Jan. 1, 1953 — March 30, 2013, of Columbia

COLUMBIA — Joel Lloyd Haley, 60, of Columbia, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2013, at his home.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Parker Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Joel was born Jan. 1, 1953, in Columbia to Lloyd J. Haley Jr. and Loretta Nienaber Haley. He married Julie Melloway, and she survives.

Joel started working at Bourn Feed in 1969; he then bought the store in 1986 from Bob Bourn, who preceded him in death.

He was a major supporter of many community activities, charities and locally owned businesses, especially the Boone County 4-H and FFA. Joel donated all the feed to the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and Columbia Police Department’s K-9 units.

Survivors include: his father, Lloyd Haley Jr.; his wife, Julie Haley; two daughters, Melissa Quast and husband, Michael, of Columbia, and Maggie Kays of Ashland; two grandchildren, Wesley and Sierra; and a nephew, Jason Cox.

He was preceded in death by his mother and sister, Karen Cox.

Memorials can be given to the Cancer Research Center.
