Dodgeball, kite flying, beer tasting make for eclectic Columbia weekend

COLUMBIA — Here are six options for children, families, sports fans, beer-enthusiasts and residents of all kinds looking to enjoy the first weekend of April.

Columbia Farmers' Market: 8 a.m. to noon. The Saturday market will move outdoors to the Activity and Recreation Center. At 9:30 a.m., the band Mere Mortals will provide entertainment while shoppers have the opportunity to buy locally produced goods. Gift certificates for specific vendors will be raffled off. 

Mizzou Adventures in Education: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This children's event will take place at the Columns Ballroom in the Reynolds Alumni Center. MU graduate students will lead about 30 activities ranging from science experiments to learning about farm animals. 

TEDxCoMo: 10 a.m. Taking place at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts, the event will explore how feedback impacts fields such as media and education. Tickets cost $15 plus a processing fee. 

Dodgeball Tournament Benefiting The Intersection: 11 a.m. A dodgeball tournament fundraiser will take place at the Christian Fellowship Church. The cost to play is $10 per person with teams ranging from six to eight people. The money will benefit the nonprofit after school program The Intersection. 

Kite Flying Day: Noon to 2 p.m. At Douglass Park Ball Field, families are invited to fly kites. Kites will be available for those who do not have one. A contest will be held for accomplishments such as "Smallest Flying Kite" and "Highest Flyer." Prizes will be awarded. 

Missouri Beer Festival: 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The third Missouri Beer Festival will be held at the Parkade Plaza Event Center. The festival celebrates beer and food from various Midwest locations. The cost for tickets is $20 in advance and $25 at the door.
