COLUMBIA — A chain reaction on I-70 near Midway Truck Stop on Friday morning caused a four vehicle pileup and stalled traffic in both directions during rush hour.

Five people were in the car accident, which involved a tractor-trailer. Everyone walked away without major injuries. Two drivers and one of the passengers suffered minor injuries.

The pileup occurred when a Volvo tractor-trailer in the left lane was slowing for congestion due to an earlier accident. While it was slowing down, a Honda Accord rear ended the tractor-trailer. The Honda Accord was then hit by a Chevrolet 1500 and the Chevrolet 1500 by a Chevrolet Malibu.

The Volvo tractor-trailer had minor damages and was able to drive away from the accident. The other three vehicles were totaled. The Chevrolet 1500 overturned after being hit by the Chevrolet Malibu, which went into the median hitting cables.
