COLUMBIA — People are invited to lace up their running or walking shoes and participate in the 11th annual Jay Dix Challenge to Cure on Saturday.

All proceeds and donations will benefit research at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. The race has raised more than $159,000 over the previous 10 years.

Organized by the Columbia Multisport Club, the family-friendly event offers a 5K walk, 5K run and a 10K run. All participants will be timed. The event begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at Flat Branch Park and includes a supervised kids area with games and a post-race buffet.

The event was established in the memory of Jay Dix, an MU Health Care pathologist and triathlete who fought his own battle with cancer.
