Columbia Water and Light replaced a transformer on Eighth Street on Tuesday morning.

COLUMBIA — Weather-related power outages led to a street closure in downtown Columbia on Tuesday.

Eighth Street from Broadway to Cherry Street was blocked off while a transformer was replaced. The transformer went out at 9 p.m. Monday.

The outage affected businesses and homes on both sides of Eighth Street, including Boone County National Bank, Tiger Hotel, Sycamore Restaurant, apartments above the restaurant and Jon's Pipe Shop, said Columbia Water and Light spokeswoman Connie Kacprowicz.

Columbia Water and Light did reset and restore the power Monday night, but the power failed again at 4 a.m. Tuesday when the underground transformer went out, Kacprowicz said. The transformer was replaced Tuesday morning, and power was restored by 10:30 a.m. Crews cleared the area, and the streets reopened.
