COLUMBIA — Missouri softball player Chelsea Thomas was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The conference recognition is the senior's fourth of this season and the 16th conference honor of her career. Thomas leads all SEC players in weekly awards this year. Only three other pitchers have earned the honor more than once.
The two-time All-American pitched 14 innings over the weekend in two wins at No. 11 Louisiana State, striking out 23 batters at a rate of 1.64 strikeouts per inning. She allowed just one walk in the two victories.
Thomas struck out 13 batters and allowed just two hits in Missouri's 6-1 win Friday before leading the Tigers to a 3-2 victory Sunday. She struck out 10 batters and scattered five hits in the Sunday outing.
The two wins at LSU improved Thomas' season record to 17-4, which includes an SEC-best 10 conference wins.
