COLUMBIA — Starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, East Nifong Boulevard between Rock Quarry and Bearfield roads will be closed to through traffic. The road will remain closed for the day while the Department of Public Works replaces a failing storm water drainage culvert.

Final pavement repairs will result in additional lane restrictions through 5 p.m. Friday, according to a department news release. Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians need to use alternate routes on Thursday and should expect delays on Friday.

The 208 Gold East and 105 Purple Commuter bus routes will be rerouted to avoid the closure on Thursday but will return to normal on Friday, according to a Columbia Transit news release.

The 208 Gold East route to the Pointe will be rerouted as follows:

  • Departing from the MU Student Center, the bus will travel west on Rollins Road to Providence Road, south on Providence Road to Nifong Boulevard, east on Nifong Boulevard to the Green Meadow Road and Nifong Connector, south on the Nifong Connector, east on Nifong, and north on Rock Quarry Road where it will continue on its normal route.

The 105 Purple Commuter will be rerouted as follows:

  • The route will not turn onto Rock Quarry Road from Grindstone Parkway but will continue east on Grindstone Parkway, southeast on Ponderosa, west on Nifong Boulevard, and north on Bearfield Road. After departing Central Missouri Subcontracting Enterprises, the bus will travel north on Bearfield, cross Nifong Boulevard, west on Grindstone Parkway, south on Rock Quarry Road and west on Nifong Boulevard where it will rejoin its normal route.

Bus stops within detoured areas will not be in service Thursday. Passengers should catch buses at the nearest active bus stop.

Passengers can call the Columbia Transit customer service line at 573-874-7282 or visit www.gocolumbiamo.com for more information on bus stops and route information.
