Betty 'Jean' Dierker, 86, died Monday

COLUMBIA – Betty "Jean" Dierker died at her home in Harrisburg on Monday, April 22, 2013. She was 86.

She was born May 22, 1926, in Chicago to Willard and Helen Trower.

She married William W. Dierker on Aug. 22, 1948.

Mrs. Dierker graduated from Stephens College with a degree in Child Development. She helped establish Immanuel Baptist Church Carpenter Kids Daycare in Hannibal in 1972. In 1975, she and her husband moved to Columbia, where she worked for Community Nursery School until she retired.

She loved her family, her country home and the mountains.

Mrs. Dierker is survived by a daughter, Carol Janes and her husband Bud of Hannibal; a son, Mike Dierker and his wife Susan of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Julie Leach and her husband Patrick of Kansas City, Kan., Justin Janes and his wife Kelly of Hannibal, Shaun Dierker of Columbia and Erin Dierker of Troy, N.Y.; and two great-grandchildren, Kiersten and William Leach of Kansas City, Kan.

Her husband, William Dierker, died earlier.

At Mrs. Dierker's request, there will be no services.
