COLUMBIA — Ellison Hutchison, 37, pleaded guilty in Jefferson City on Thursday to distribution of heroin resulting in the death of 22-year-old Maximillion Shackelford.

Hutchison will serve 22 years in prison as part of a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.

Hutchison admitted to selling heroin to Shackelford in Columbia on January 23, 2012. Shackelford was found dead of a heroin overdose later that day, according to previous Missourian reporting.

Hutchison will not be eligible for parole while in prison and might face up to $1 million in fines, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Kansas City.

Supervising editor is Simina Mistreanu.
