COLUMBIA — The Boone County Sheriff's Department arrested a Columbia man after searches yielded drugs, a handgun and about $16,500 in cash Friday morning.

Deputies searched a motel room in northwest Columbia, a residence on Beechwood Drive, a residence on Bethany Drive and an automobile, according to a release from the sheriff's department. They found about 650 grams of cocaine and 38 pounds of marijuana in addition to the gun and money.

Joseph Roland, 30, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree drug trafficking, distribution of a controlled substance, being a felon in possession of a firearm and failure to register as a sex offender.

The searches Friday morning were the culmination of a month-long investigation into drug crimes in the Columbia area.
