Katrine Haarklau sets school record in javelin at Drake Relays

Katrine Haarklau set a new Missouri record in the javelin throw and finished third overall in the competition at the Drake Relays on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa.

After fouling on her first two attempts, Haarklau's third throw traveled 49.56 meters and broke the Missouri record of 49.34 meters set by Tracey Holloman in 1998.

Bethany Pfeiffer also had a personal best throw of 46.58 meters and placed sixth in the competition.

In other events, Malcolm Pennix placed third in the long jump with a third jump of 7.76 meters, and Kearsten Peoples placed third in both the shotput and the discus. Peoples had a throw of 17.33 meters in the shotput and had a throw of 53.05 meters in the discus.

Bryant Blahnik competed in his first 10k Thursday and placed eighth with a time of 30:09.15.

The Drake Relays continue Saturday and Sunday.
