COLUMBIA — A Columbia man was charged Wednesday with sexual trafficking of a child and promoting prostitution.
The Boone County Sheriff's Department accused Kenyata Miles, 32, of providing a hotel room to a 16-year-old girl who had run away from a juvenile facility and posting Internet ads to use her for prostitution. He allegedly coerced another woman into prostitution by beating her and threatening her with a gun, according to a probable cause statement.
The arrest resulted from an investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Department Cyber Crimes Task Force that began on April 18, according to a news release.
Because he is already a convicted felon from a drug charge in 2008, Miles faces a third charge for the unlawful possession of a firearm. The three pending charges are all felonies.
Miles has not yet entered a plea. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 20.
