COLUMBIA — A Columbia man wanted in a November shooting was captured after leading a Boone County Sheriff's deputy on a car chase through the El Chaparral subdivision Wednesday night.

The chase began at 6:50 p.m. when Rashard Bigham, 21, failed to stop at a stop sign near Santa Barbara Drive and ended when he struck a vehicle, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Bigham was already wanted on warrants for first-degree assault and armed criminal action in connection with a November 2012 shooting of a 17-year-old male, according to previous Missourian reporting. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

He was found in possession of marijuana and a loaded, stolen assault rifle when police searched his car, according to the release.

Bigham was arrested on charges of first-degree assault, felony resisting arrest, possession of a firearm, felony property damage, receiving stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, careless driving, property damage, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and failure to stop at a stop sign.

He was being held at Boone County Jail on a bail of $444,335. The bail for first-degree assault has yet to be set.
