The Rock Bridge girls track team swept all four qualifying spots in the 3200-meter run at the District 5 meet in Camdenton on Saturday and qualified for next Saturday’s sectional meet at Ozark.
The Bruins' girls won the team competition at districts. The boys placed second in the team competition. The Bruins also had athletes advance in 18 events Saturday.
“I think the kids that realized they needed to step up and perform did,” coach Neal Blackburn said. “On district and sectional days you expect certain things to happen and expect kids that have been performing all season to do the same thing.
“I think that’s just what happened today,” Blackburn said.
Nathan Keown and Evan Schulte also placed first and second in the 3200-meters.
The Bruins' relay teams excelled Saturday. Schulte, Margie Crosby, Marilise Stamps and Maddie May advanced to sectionals when they placed first in the girls 4x800 meter relay.
The boys 4x800 team of Zach Cook, Robert Benad, Josh Ripley and Grant Sykuta also advanced with a second place finish.
The girls 4x200 team of Hailey King, Makayla Jones, Elexis Ferguson-Cooper and Taylor McDannold advanced to sectionals. The boys 4x200 meter relay of Chas Barbee, Brendan McLaughlin, West Wilson and Luke Darrough also qualified.
The boys 4x100 team of Barbee, McLaughlin, Wilson and Clayton Baumgartner placed second as well.
Faramola Shonekan, Crosby, Fergeson-Cooper and McDannold also placed first in the girls 4x400 meters.
Rock Bridge’s boys and girls placed first and second in the 1600-meter run. Funkenbusch and Farmer advanced for the girls; Keown and Schulte did for the boys.
Mallory Short won the 100-meter hurdles for the Bruins. Short also qualified for sectionals in the 300-meter hurdles. McDannold qualified for sectionals in the 400- meter run.
In the 800-meter run, Crosby and Ripley each qualified with fourth place finishes.
Jones and Barbee each qualified in the 200-meter run with fourth place finishes.
In the discus, Hunter Trom placed fourth for Rock Bridge. Mubina Kahleel won the shot put.
Maddie Wipfler placed second in the long jump and third in the triple jump. Jones placed second in the long jump.
Matt Bush and Darrough also placed third and fourth in the pole vault.
