THE WEEK IN PHOTOS: Track and field championships, lessons from 10-year-old gentleman

COLUMBIA — The best photos from Missourian photographers this week included the Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championships and a lesson in chivalry from a local 10-year-old.

In this photo by Breanne Bradley, Mississippi senior Anne Threlkeld, left, Mississippi sophomore McKenna Coughlin and Georgia sophomore Erika Ramsey compete in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase Saturday at Walton Stadium. MU hosted the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.

Missourian photographer Peter Marek captured this image of Centralia Intermediate School students dressed as Union soldiers as they hide in the tall grass. The students participated in Civil War Day with a re-enactment Friday at the Centralia Battlefield.

Missouri defeated Tennessee 3-0, and ace Chelsea Thomas threw seven scoreless innings against the SEC's top hitting team. 

Retired Marine Capt. Ralph Dobbs salutes a returning World War II veteran in this photo by Greg Kendall-Ball taken at the Central Missouri Honor Flight Welcome Home Party on Wednesday morning. About 70 World War II, Korea and Vietnam veterans took part in the flight to Washington to visit the nation's war memorials.

Missourian photographer Whitney Hayward captured this image of Cole Nowlin, 10, holding a rose on Ninth Street. Cole handed flowers to people for the YouTube video "The Extra Mile," in which he instructs college-aged men how to treat women nicely. The video has gained more than 440,000 views.
