Margaret A. Misiak, “Mac Carlton”, 83, of Columbia, passed away May 12, 2013. She was born January 11, 1930 in Greenville, Mo., to the late Freemont W. and Retha M. (Hughes) Carlton.

Margaret started her career as a school teacher in a one-room school house in rural Missouri. She spent many years in Saginaw, Mich., raising a family of four children and then serving as the Director of Volunteers at Saginaw General Hospital. Upon retirement, she moved back to her home in Missouri. While there, she mentored medical students and young children and donated her time and money graciously to many organizations, including the Ronald McDonald House. Margaret began reading at the age of 3, and it became a lifelong passion. She was also an avid NASCAR and Mizzou athletics fan. She was the “in house” pianist at the Terrace Retirement Home during her time there. She was a giving and lovely woman, and will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

There will be a visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery immediately after the Memorial Service.

Margaret is survived by her children: Sue Tuttle, David Misiak (Jackie) and Mark Misiak; siblings: Dub Carlton (Reba) and Kate Shaughnessy (Bill); grandchildren: Donald Misiak, Danielle Misiak, Meghann Misiak and Monica Misiak.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Virginia, one brother, Frank, and one son, Robert.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Heifer International, or to the Salvation Army.
