Armed robbery suspect flees Motel 6

COLUMBIA — A man attempted to rob a Motel 6 at 3402 I-70 Drive S.E. early Monday morning. 

Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched at 4:35 a.m. They learned that a man ran into the motel lobby holding a handgun. He demanded money and ran away when the clerk told him the motel didn't have cash, according to a news release. 

No shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.

A K-9 unit was set loose to trail the suspect but was unsuccessful.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Columbia Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 875-TIPS to remain anonymous.
