Steve Weaver, president of the Spartan Alliance, discusses plans for organization

Wednesday, May 22, 2013 | 6:00 a.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Steve Weaver, whose daughter Cheyanna will be a junior at Battle, was elected president of the Spartan Alliance, the school's parent-teacher-student organization, on April 10.

Battle opted for a PTSO rather than a PTO to save money and make sure all its funds go to benefiting the school. He joins vice president Denise Thurman, treasurer Misty Jones and secretary Stacey Tonyan, along with three at-large members as officers of the alliance.

Here, Weaver discusses his vision and goals for the Spartan Alliance in its first year and how to take advantage the opportunity the alliance has to create a culture of involvement at Battle.
