Nedra Conboy, 91, died peacefully with her daughters by her side on May 18, 2013.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marci and Cindy; her three grandchildren, Brandon, Jason, and Lindsey Callihan; and her great-grandson, Oliver William Callihan.
Nedra was born in Columbia, Mo., in 1922 to Berry S. and Alma Milburn. She attended Hickman High School in Columbia, and graduated from Christian College (Columbia College) in 1942.
Nedra married L.A. Nickell, Jr., the son of L.A. and Virginia Nickell, in 1943. On Christmas Day in 1949, Nedra gave birth to their daughter, Marcia Lindra. Nedra was widowed in 1951.
In 1953, Nedra married William H. Conboy who preceded her in death in 2007. Their daughter, Cynthia Anne, was born in June, 1955.
Apart from a few years in Chicago in the mid-1960s, the family made their home in Columbia. Nedra was active in King’s Daughters in Columbia, and was passionate about her work on the Board of Boone County Group Homes (today’s Boone County Family Resources).
She and her family especially enjoyed spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks on their houseboat, the Mar-Cin. She and Bill traveled to 76 countries together over the years, and it's quite likely they found the opportunity to dance in each one them.
Nedra was a caring and loving wife and mother, and was very close to both her daughters throughout her life. She had many friends, some dating back to her days in kindergarten. She carried a certain elegance about her, and she and her husband enjoyed socializing with their many friends.
She will be missed, and remembered lovingly.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street N.W., Washington, D.C. 20036.
Plans for a memorial service will be announced in the coming months.
