Bertha Mae Hendren, Aug. 3, 1929 — May 22, 2013

Bertha Mae Hendren, 83, of Columbia, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at her home. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, and a service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, both at Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Freddie Martie of Ashland will be officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bertha was born Aug. 3, 1929, to Marvin Dale and Gertrude Forsee Bennett. She married Ralph Hendren, Sr. on April 12, 1946 in Columbia.

She worked alongside her husband in the salvage business for 50 years at Hendren’s Salvage. Bertha loved gardening flowers, and she was an avid participating race fan. She loved to be with her family, play cards, was a very hard worker and loved to watch TV with her beloved dog, BJ.

She is survived by four children, Ralph “Butch” Hendren and his wife, Linda, of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Barbara Coates of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Billy “Dollar Bill” Hendren and his wife, Carolyn, of Columbia, Jacky Hendren and his wife, Carmen, of Columbia; one sister, Helen Walker; one brother, Russell Bennett; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hendren was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; son-in-law, Michael Coates; two sisters; two brothers and one great-grandson, infant JT Daughenbaugh.
