Bertha Mae Hendren enjoyed playing cards, gardening

COLUMBIA — Bertha Mae Hendren of Columbia died Wednesday, May 22, 2013. She was 83.

She was born Aug. 3, 1929, to Marvin Dale and Gertrude Forsee Bennett.

On April 12, 1946, she married Ralph Hendren Sr. in Columbia.

Mrs. Hendren worked alongside her husband for 50 years at Hendren's Salvage located in Columbia.

Described as a hard worker, Mrs. Hendren also enjoyed gardening flowers, playing cards, spending time with her family and watching TV with her beloved dog, BJ.

Mrs. Hendren is survived by four children, Ralph "Butch" Hendren and his wife, Linda, of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Barbara Coates of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Billy "Dollar Bill" Hendren and his wife, Carolyn, of Columbia, Jacky Hendren and his wife, Carmen, of Columbia; a sister, Helen Walker; and a brother, Russell Bennett; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, a son-in-law, Michael Coates; two sisters; two brothers and one great-grandson, infant JT Daughenbaugh, died earlier.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Freddie Martie of Ashland officiating at Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
