Martina Pounds of the Boone County Fire Protection District waits for word from a team of firefighters who were looking for an adult and two teenagers who were stranded in Rock Bridge Memorial State Park after the stream flooded its bank from heavy rains Thursday. Firefighters and police responded to a call from a family member who said he had found their car at the park but couldn't find his family, Pounds said.

COLUMBIA — Three Fulton residents were rescued from Rock Bridge Memorial State Park on Thursday by the Boone County Fire Protection District.

A Fulton family of seven arrived at the park at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to hike, and three members eventually got separated, Battalion Chief Gale Blomenkamp said. Two children, aged 12 and 16, and their grandfather were stranded between a creek and a flash-flood area for approximately two hours.

The missing family members were "found very quickly" and had no medical issues after 15 county firefighters, one engine and one ambulance from University Hospital were dispatched to the scene at 4:40 p.m., Blomenkamp said. A command vehicle and squad were also deployed but turned back after the grandfather and children had been found.

Blomenkamp did not know the names of the family members. Messages to the park's rangers were not immediately returned.
