COLUMBIA — A Columbia man remains in the hospital and a woman was discharged after a car accident on Route WW on Sunday morning.

Tyrel Obryan, 21, was in University Hospital in fair condition Monday afternoon. His passenger, April Smith, 20, of Fulton, was discharged, according to Mary Jenkins, University Hospital public relations manager.

The crash took place at 8:25 a.m. Sunday east of Purdy Lane when Obryan lost control of the vehicle after the right side tires dropped off the road, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Paul Reinsch. The vehicle struck an embankment, became airborne and hit a fence.

Following the accident, Obryan was listed as having serious injuries and Smith was listed as having moderate injuries, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol's crash report.

Neither Obryan nor Smith was wearing a seat belt. No drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash, Reinsch said in an email.
