COLUMBIA — Alfonso Rodriguez made his first court appearance Tuesday since he was taken into custody May 26.
According to previous Missourian reporting, Rodriguez, 34, was arrested after police responded to a report of a gunshot victim and a chase on Interstate 70. He has been charged with shooting his girlfriend in the neck and resisting arrest.
A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper spotted Rodriguez's car and attempted to pull it over. When Rodriguez did not pull the car over, road spikes were used to deflate the tires and stop the vehicle.
The victim, Gisela Angel-Lopez, 20, identified as Rodriguez's girlfriend, suffered a gunshot wound to the neck. Angel-Lopez remains in University Hospital and is in serious condition, a hospital media relations person said.
Rodriguez said he did not have an attorney but that his uncle was working on hiring one for him. A preliminary hearing is set for June 12 at 9 a.m.
