Leroy Owen, 90, was involved in prison ministry for more than 30 years

COLUMBIA — R. Leroy Owen died Friday, June 7, 2013. He was 90.

He was born Feb. 16, 1923, in Columbia, to Grover and Grace (Denham) Owen.

Mr. Owen proudly served in the Army for several years. He was an ordained minister and was involved in prison ministry for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Church of God Holiness in Hallsville. Mr. Owen also worked at MU as a painter.

Mr. Owen is survived by his wife, Hattie, of Hallsville; five children, Richard Leroy Owen Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Columbia, Olga Owen of Columbia, Dennis Owen and his wife, Cheryl, of Texas, Ola Owen of Hallsville, Quita Hubble and her husband, David, of Mexica, Mo.; his brother Joseph Owen, of California; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

His parents, Grover and Grace Owen; three brothers Ralph, Stanley and Claude Owen; and a granddaughter, Tonya, died earlier. 

Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery at the same address.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compasses, 3050 I-70 Dr. S.E., Ste. 100.
