COLUMBIA — Residents enjoyed a warm June day Tuesday by playing in the water at city parks.

Family and friends gathered at Douglass Pool in Douglass Park. Children donned swimming goggles, jumped into the pool with their friends and did handstands in the shallow parts. Meanwhile across the city, children built sandcastles and played in the fountains at Stephens Lake Park.

The National Weather Service reported a high of 87 Tuesday for Columbia. Forecasters expect high temperatures from the mid-80s to lower 90s for the rest of the week, along with overnight lows in the mid-60s to lower 70s. There's a chance for thunderstorms Tuesday night, Wednesday night and Thursday.
