COLUMBIA — Maxine Turner Haas died Monday, June 17, 2013, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 88.
Mrs. Haas, a lifelong resident of Columbia, was born July 25, 1924, to Richard Dewey Turner and Lurline (Hudson) Turner. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1942 and attended Orton-Rice Business School in Columbia. She worked at General Telephone Co. and as an administrative assistant at the MU Agronomy Department and MU Extension.
She was married Sept. 21, 1947, to Raymond Eugene Haas, who died in 1983.
Mrs. Haas enjoyed the many friendships she and her husband cultivated through square dancing. She was active for many years at the Boone County Historical Society and had an interest in studying genealogy and Boone County history. She was an avid reader, and even after becoming visually impaired, she frequently enjoyed audio books.
She is survived by a daughter, Rayma Haas, son-in-law, George Purdy, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Purdy of Seattle; and cousins Grace Hudson Brothers of Hannibal, Jackie Hudson Ravenscraft of Kansas City and Sharron Turner McKeon of Bluffton, S.C.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with a service at 11 a.m. Graveside burial will immediately the service.
