You can almost see Boone County grow up before your eyes. Today, the Columbia Missourian unveils 100 videos, one for each age from 1 to 100. In these videos, Boone County residents tell a small part about themselves that together weaves a cross-generational story about us.
COLUMBIA — The phone would ring in the middle of the night and Boone County sheriff’s deputy, later deputy chief, O.J. Stone would answer. But before he got in his car to go where he was needed Stone would open his daughter’s bedroom door and look in one more time, “just in case.”
Stone didn’t realize his daughter knew he checked on her until one day, while introducing him at her school’s career day, she told her class about the sounds of those nights: phone, door, car.
“It scares me sometimes,” Stone remembers her saying. “Because I don’t know if he’s going to come back.”
