COLUMBIA — Columbia police arrested a man and a woman Monday night in connection with the Sunday shooting death of a 25-year-old man in a shopping center parking lot.

Police arrested Samuel Butler, 26, of Columbia, and Joycelynn Brown, 22, of Jefferson City, in connection with the homicide investigation.

Butler and Brown were both arrested on a charge of second-degree murder. Bond for Butler was set at $1 million in cash; bond for Brown was set at $500,000.

Police said the investigation is ongoing with the possibility of further arrests or charges.

The shooting death of 25-year-old Anthony Unger of Jefferson City at 21 Conley Road was drug-related, police said.

Drugs were found at the scene of the shooting, Columbia Police Department spokesman Sgt. Joe Bernhard said, but he could not say what kind of drugs were found.

The shooting "was not a random deal," Bernhard said. He said police do not want people thinking there's someone in the shopping center "coming to rob and kill them."

Police responded to the scene at 11:10 p.m. Sunday after a report of a man being shot in the parking lot. Officers found Unger unconscious with gunshot wounds, and he died later at a local hospital.

Is the last sentence of this article in error: "There is no suspect or vehicle description at this time, Bernhard said", given earlier in the article it says they arrested two specific people in connection with the shooting?
