Columbia resident Mary Jo Roberts shared these thoughts after reading the obituary of John Nowell, who died June 6.

Thank you for the nice obituary about John Nowell. Although John was a few years behind me at the University Laboratory School, I do remember him & my Mother, Dr. Marjorie Southard Roberts, had him as a student there.

Although it has been closed for many years, one still remembers the small classes at Lab School & one never forgets those who attended it.

John was a kind kid that was always of help to others — either in his family’s stores or elsewhere.

Our sympathy to his sisters & brother as he died much too young.
