COLUMBIA – The Columbia Police Department responded at 1:39 a.m. to a burglary in progress at a home in the 100 block of Bicknell Street. Police were still seeking a suspect in the incident Thursday afternoon.

Police Sgt. Joe Bernhard said in a news release that a white male entered the residence through an unlocked door and proceeded to a bedroom where a female victim awoke to him standing by the bed masturbating. The individual left the house on foot before the police arrived.

The victim told the police that the individual may have had a handgun, but no injuries were reported, according to the release.

There were also two girls ages 8 and 12 at the residence at the time of the incident.

Police were looking for a suspect described as a 6-foot-1 white male with a thin build wearing a white T-shirt and shorts, according to the police report. His age is unknown.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Columbia Police Department non-emergency line at 442-6131.
