Kansas City Fire Department workers cut Loretta Larimer and her granddaughter out of Larimer's Nissan Altima after a crash on Sept. 26, 2011.

PLATTE CITY — A Kansas City teenager has been sentenced to 3½ years in prison for causing a fatal accident while texting.

The Kansas City Star reports that Rachel N. Gannon pleaded guilty in May 2012 when she was 17 to second-degree involuntary manslaughter, third-degree assault and violating the Missouri law that prohibits motorists 21 or younger from texting while driving.

The accident killed 72-year-old Loretta Larimer of Camden Point. Gannon told police she was looking at her phone when she lost control of her vehicle.

A judge initially placed Gannon on five years' probation and ordered her to serve 48 hours of "shock time" in jail, find a job, serve 72 days of house arrest and perform 300 hours of community service.

Authorities say she has violated that parole.

Will some Liberal "bleeding hearts" organization come forward to play the violin for the system's harsh treatment of Ms. Larimer?

After all, Ms. Larimer's depraved indifference only resulted in the death of one person (that's not many, is it?); then some judge let her off initially with only five years probation (essentially a slap on her wrist).

Then she violated her probation.

But of course these situations are the result of our awful and vicious society, and never the fault of individuals. Right?

For god's sake, Ellis, is it all about the evil liberals with you? I'm as liberal as one can be, and I live in fear that before cancer, Altzheimer's, or some other malady gets to me, I'll be taken out by some texting twit behind the wheel of a suburban assault vehicle. Put 'em behind bars or on a chain gang cleaning the country's highways and bi-ways. Get some perspective.

No use Hank, the old angry white right wing cabal gets a daily dose of their poison. You have expect them to eventually regurgitate it out. Remember we fight for them too. Not knowing that they are the victims of this irrational poisoning doesn't mean we shouldn't provide them with an antidote through reason.
