COLUMBIA — A residential fire at 3717 Wayside Drive in northeast Columbia did an estimated $10,000 in damage Sunday afternoon, according to a Columbia Fire Department news release. After investigation, the fire was determined to be caused by "discarded smoking materials," the release stated.

Eight units responded to the fire at about 1:50 p.m. and found smoke coming from the back of the house. The fire was under control in less than five minutes after an aggressive attack, the release stated.
