Joseph Arenella enjoyed wildlife, spending time with friends

COLUMBIA — Joseph Carl Arenella died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Harry S. Truman Hospital. He was 62.

Mr. Arenella was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Michael J. Arenella Sr. and Lillian Arenella on March 6, 1951.

Mr. Arenella married Carolyn Barnes on May 12, 1978, in Harrisburg. He was an Army veteran and a member of Life Rock Church. He worked as a chef at many places in Columbia and enjoyed wildlife and visiting with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Barnes; his son, Joseph M. Arenella, of Columbia; his daughter, Gloria Scherer, and her husband, Quinton, of Wakefield, Kan.; his brother, Michael J. Arenella, of Columbia; and five brothers who live in the northeast United States; four sisters; and five grandchildren.

His parents, Michael Arenella and Lillian Arenella, and a sister died earlier.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bach-Yager Funeral Chapel. Services, conducted by Pastor Bob Kelley, will be held immediately following visitation. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Mo.
