Route Z overpass to reopen Friday

Thursday, July 18, 2013 | 2:58 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA – The Route Z overpass will open to traffic at 4 p.m. Friday, according to a Missouri Department of Transportation news release.

The bridge was reconstructed as part of a larger project to accommodate increased traffic to and from Battle High School. The school opened for summer classes in June.

Westbound ramps leading from Interstate 70 to the Route Z interchange are already open, according to the release. Eastbound ramps opened to traffic June 7.

With both westbound and eastbound ramps in place, cars now have direct access to Route Z and Rangeline Road.

The same project includes other road improvements around Battle that are not yet completed, including resurfacing Route Z from I-70 to St. Charles Road, adding shoulders and building a roundabout at the intersection of Route Z and St. Charles Road.

St. Charles Road at Route Z is closed while construction of the roundabout is in progress.

The Missouri Department of Transportation is working with a contractor to complete each part of the project as quickly as possible. The project is funded through a cost-sharing agreement between MoDOT and Boone County.

Supervising editor is Hannah Wiese.
