Alice M. Lendt, 74, volunteered at University Hospital

COLUMBIA — Alice Marie Deitchler Lendt, of Columbia, died Monday, July 22, 2013. She was 74.

She was born Aug. 3, 1938, in Wakefield, Neb., to Alfred Christopher and Ruth (McCone) Deitchler.

She married her high school sweetheart, David L. Lendt, on November 21, 1956. The couple moved to Columbia in 1989 after their three children graduated from college.

Mrs. Lendt was a volunteer at the University Hospital information desk for a decade. She was active in First Presbyterian Church and served as a member of the church board until she was diagnosed with cancer.

Mrs. Lendt was a member and past president of Chapter LM of P.E.O. and a member of Assistance League. She was a member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association, MU's Jefferson Club and the Fortnightly Club.

Mrs. Lendt is survived by her three children, Stephanie Lendt of Ballwin; Thomas David Lendt and his wife, Traci Payne Lendt, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Sally Lendt Anderson and her husband, Daniel G. Anderson, of Minneapolis. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Valerie and Aaron Hibray of Ballwin and Holly and Bridget Anderson of Minneapolis.

Her husband, David Lendt, brother, Donald Deitchler, and granddaughter, Helen Alice Anderson, died earlier.

Mrs. Lendt's life will be celebrated from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 2409 Hyde Park Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
