COLUMBIA — Members of Fairview Road Church of Christ's Extreme Home Makeover program planned to hand Almeta Crayton the keys to her newly renovated house at noon Saturday.
Friday's rain, however, delayed some of the exterior construction projects such as pouring concrete for walkways and re-shingling the roof. Volunteers hope to finish the home improvements by Monday or Tuesday, according to the Rev. Brian Hajicek, the church's minister.
Crayton has helped several Columbia residents through charity efforts such as Everybody Eats Thanksgiving food drive and dinner. She also served as the First Ward representative on the Columbia City Council for nine years and founded Columbia's Neighborhood Resource Center.
This summer is Crayton's turn to be on the receiving end, as Fairview Road Church of Christ's "Extreme Home Makeover: Fairview Road Edition" program makes improvements to increase the safety and accessibility of her home.
