COLUMBIA — Approximately 125 people attended the Show-Me State Games swimming competitions held at Hickman High School’s pool Sunday. Parents, family and friends from all over Missouri stood along the edge of the pool cheering racers on. Between heats, swimmers convened with their friends around the pool deck to play games on their iPads or take a power nap.
Participants of all ages competed in events of their choosing, no matter their experience level or ability. Some racers came from school or community teams, while others came as independent swimmers to compete in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke or butterfly events. Several parents who had competed in the Show-Me Games for more than a decade encouraged their children to compete as well, making it a family event.
