Bullet holes found in scoreboard at Rock Bridge High School

Monday, July 29, 2013 | 5:12 p.m. CDT

COLUMBIA — Bullet holes have been discovered in a scoreboard at Rock Bridge High School.

The new scoreboard at the Rock Bridge baseball field has three bullet holes in it, but how long they have been there is unknown, said Columbia Public Schools spokeswoman Michelle Baumstark. The holes were not visible from the field underneath the board.

The scoreboard had not been used by the school since baseball season ended in May, but the fields and the board were recently in use for the Show-Me State Games. It was still being determined if that was when it happened, Baumstark said.

“It’s unfortunate that this happened, because they were brand new,” Baumstark said.

Rock Bridge installed new baseball and softball scoreboards last year using district funds. An estimate for the cost of repair had yet to be provided, she said.

The school was looking at all possibilities regarding the incident and was working to narrow down the timeline, in addition to filing a report with police.

Supervising editor is Shaina Cavazos.
