COLUMBIA — The pedestrian bridges linking Stephens College across College Avenue and Broadway will be closed Aug. 9 for renovations.

Crews will apply a protective overlay to the spans of the bridge, according to college spokeswoman Janese Silvey. The project is expected to be completed the same day.

In case of inclement weather, the work will be postponed. While the work is being completed pedestrians are asked to use the crossings at street level.

The closure is part of a larger project that will remodel the bridges, causing temporary closures of sidewalks along the two streets. The sidewalks will not be closed permanently during construction, and plans call to reopen them on Sept. 10.

Supervising editor is Jake Kreinberg.
