Having lived here since 1955, there has never been a period before that I was afraid to go anywhere in this town until now. As one of the silent majority, I want to add my support to Sheriff Dwayne Carey and Fred Parry, publisher of Inside Columbia, for speaking out for me. Both of these gentlemen had the courage to speak out even though they were criticized for doing so.
It is evident that the article by Fred (Inside Columbia, August issue) portrays the situation here in Columbia and the reasons it is happening. If you will just step back a little and view the forest instead of just looking at the trees, you will come to the same conclusion that he has. Then you would either force the police chief to get tough on crime or to go somewhere else where citizens love criminals. We citizens here in Columbia certainly do not love criminals.
