Ruth Evelyn (Parker) Willis, 85, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Lenoir Care Center in Columbia.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening, August 21, 2013, at Memorial Funeral Home.

Ruth was born on January 19, 1928 in Hallsville, Mo., to Virgil and Cecil (Elliott) Parker. She attended school in Hallsville until she and her mother moved to Columbia in 1944. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1945.

Ruth married Houston L. Willis on Sept. 17, 1948 in Columbia at Calvary Baptist Church, and he survives.

Ruth was employed by MFA Inc. in Columbia, as an executive assistant secretary from 1949 to 1960. After that, she spent time lovingly raising her two children and being a homemaker. She later worked at the Photo/Camera Counter at Nowell's Grocery Store on Keene Street. Ruth loved being with people and considered her customers as her friends.

Her interests included her family, dining out, garage sales and her loving cats, including her beloved white Persian cat, Fluffy. Ruth was an avid animal lover and seemed to have cats and dogs around, her entire life.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Houston of the home, one daughter, Linda Willis, of Columbia, one son, Alan Willis and wife Terry of Columbia, and one grandson, Ryan Willis of Columbia, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Wilma Beede Breedlove, and three brothers, Robert Beede, John Beede and Ralph Parker.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Columbia Humane Society or Columbia Second Chance, or a charity of your choice.
