COLUMBIA — Ruth Evelyn Willis of Columbia died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013. She was 85.
She was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Hallsville to Virgil and Cecil (Elliott) Parker.
After moving to Columbia, she attended Hickman High School and graduated in 1945.
On Sept. 17, 1948, she married Houston L. Willis at the Calvary Baptist Church.
The following year, she began working as an executive assistant secretary for the MFA Mutual Insurance Co., now Shelter Insurance, in Columbia. She left in 1960 to raise her two children.
Mrs. Willis later worked at the photography counter at Nowell's Grocery Store.
She also enjoyed spending time with her family, dining out, garage sales and animals, especially Fluffy, her Persian cat.
She is survived by her husband, Houston L. Willis; a son Alan Willis, and his wife, Terry, of Columbia; a daughter, Linda Willis; a grandson, Ryan Willis; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Virgil and Cecil; a sister, Wilma Beede Breedlove; and three brothers, Robert Beede, John Beede and Ralph Parker died earlier.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
