COLUMBIA — The Battle High softball team opened its home season Wednesday night with a 12-0 loss to Moberly.
Head coach Joe Henderson attributed the loss to nerves. Henderson, a former Rock Bridge coach, has worked on making the transition for the players easier by building team chemistry.
"The only difference with these girls is that they are coming from all over the place, so they have a bigger adjustment," Henderson said. "This school just opened a week ago, and they left places they love and came to a place they don't know."
Although the team members are is still adjusting to their new environment in the classroom, team leadership has not been a problem, even with no seniors on the roster.
"Honestly, its been easier not having seniors," Henderson said. "We have had a leadership training class with 10 of them, and they are learning to be leaders. It's all part of the building process. These girls get to build it and see it grow."
