COLUMBIA — Columbia's volleyball team recorded wins against Wiley College, 3-0, and Georgetown College, 3-2, on Friday in the first two games of the season.

Senior middle hitter Trinity Ojo led the first match with 14 kills. Junior outside hitter Sarah Schwentker added 10 digs, and libero Lydie van Deursen had 37 assists.

Several Cougars posted high numbers in the second match. Ojo contributed 15 kills, while senior middle hitter Carol Berger, freshman outside hitter Wenwen Han and junior outside hitter Paula Rosa each added 11 kills. Schwentker had 21 digs, and van Deursen had 50 assists.

The wins put the team on track to fulfill head coach Melinda Wrye-Washington's expectation: not to lose at home, she said.

The Cougars play again at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday in the Southwell Complex to wrap up the Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic.
