Lane closure at Hitt and Locust streets to begin Thursday

The intersection of Locust and Hitt streets will be partially closed beginning Thursday for the installation of a fiber-optic cable. The intersection will reopen by 5 p.m. Sept. 12.

COLUMBIA — The intersection of Hitt and Locust streets will be partially closed starting Thursday for about a week.

The lane closure will be in effect from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while construction crews install fiber optic cable in a manhole at the intersection. A city news release said the road should be fully open by 5 p.m. Sept. 12.

In the meantime, the Columbia Public Works Department is encouraging pedestrians and motorists to avoid the intersection.
