Ethel Rustad loved to sew, garden

COLUMBIA — Ethel Rustad of Columbia died Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Parkside Manor. She was 96.

She was born Nov. 21, 1916, in South Dakota to Oscar and Tonnie (Havlik) Olson. In 1941, she married Herman Rustad in Minneapolis. The couple spent 47 years together and lived in Minnesota and South Dakota before moving to Columbia.

Mrs. Rustad loved to garden and bake, and she was a master seamstress. She enjoyed caring for children at a day care and at her Sunday school class at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Columbia. She also worked in the church's reading room.

Survivors include her two daughters, Linda Hill and Jean Harmon; four grandchildren, Rebecca Quinn, Todd Hill, Robert Harmon and Byron Harmon; five great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law Ester Olson.

Her husband; parents; sisters Florence Wilson and Elsie Worthing; brothers Fred Olson and Henry Olson; and son-in-law Lew Harmon died earlier.

Visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Parker Funeral Service & Crematory, 22 N. Tenth St. Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
